Internet Radio Has Global Reach

Talk about your product on an internet radio program and you will dominate your niche. Just think about it. Of the people you compete against, how many have a radio program? How many can talk about their product or service.

BlogTalkRadio programs often rank on the first page of Google for your keywords + radio. Type - coral reef radio - in Google, and the number one listing is for a BlogTalkRadio show I did at the Coral Reef Symposium in July 2008.

BlogTalkRadio.com is a niche marketing communication tool that enables you to have an internet radio program for free. Along with a top rank in Google for your keywords + the word radio.

In the Profile section for each host there is a way to email a show to potential listeners as well as to subscribe to a RSS-feed: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kenenglish/feed

Just enter your email at the top and you can have my quick reference guide to BTR.

Once you register as a BlogTalkRadio host, you join an elite group of people who have a piece of the internet radio market. Look at the image below. It's the home page for blogtalkradio. On September 18, 2008, more than 8500 shows were scheduled. The number changes daily.

But it's up to you

  • to develop listeners
  • to produce the type of show that people will listen to
  • to you to build a following.

But I can help. Let me tell you how it works:

Once you become a BTR host, you are assigned a 'home page,' complete with a switchboard, a dedicated phone number and a PIN. Ten minutes before your program is scheduled to begin, you call that number and log-in. You'll hear an automated welcome message that begins a countdown. At the assigned time, an automated announcer says, 'BlogTalkRadio,' and you are live on the internet.

Your show is recorded and archived.

Within minutes of the conclusion of the show a mp3 file is available for download, email and RSS-feed. You can put the show on iTunes and other podcasting platforms.

You can embed a BTR widget on your website, so that people can hear your show while on your page, while looking at your information.

If you can use a telephone, you can have an internet radio program. It's almost that simple.

What happens next determines your likely success with internet radio.

You can

  • talk for the duration of your show.
  • have one, or more, guests call in on a different dedicated phone line and talk to them.
  • play one, or more, audio files - mp3 or wav - that you uploaded the night before your show.

I can teach you how to use the control panel, also referred to as the switchboard, even if you have minimal computer skills.

In fact, you don't even need a computer, if you have a producer who serves as your board operator. Obviously, there is a cost if someone operates the board for you, but by investing some money in the production of the show, you have time to concentrate on being the host, and the PR person.

Let me tell you about the platform, and how I have used it to produce several different shows that will be on the Social Radio Network by the end of the year.

It all began in October 2007. I was attending one of Mark Hendricks' internet marketing conferences in Orlando, FL. One of the speakers was Willie Crawford, who simply said 'I have an internet radio program on BlogTalkRadio.com that I use to talk about my cookbooks, and other things.' He left the subject as he talked about additional online marketing tools.

But I stayed behind. I went to the website and read about the platform. It looked good to me, so I registered to be a listener, and then, a host.

Liquid Lounge began on 13 February 2008.

Initially, I divided my 60 minutes into three, 20-minute segments.

  • Environmental News: As part of the Ocean Realm Society, I wanted to report on environmental issues dealing with the ocean, such as the International Year of Reef, the art of the ocean realm and Seatrade, the annual cruise industry convention. I posted several Seatrade video clips on YouTube, if you are interested - type 'seatrade 2008' in the search box.
  • Art: I am working to promote Miami art galleries and the artists who have work on display, so I developed an internet radio program as a companion for the website: Miami Art Online. I've posted more than two dozen videos on YouTube featuring galleries, artists and events, including clips from Art Basel Miami Beach. Type Miami Art Online in the search box.
  • Travel: Then, there was my favorite summer destination, the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Last year, I was there for most of hurricane season and developed a website - PoconoPreview.com.

May 2008: Caribbean Perspective with Eddie Frederick was added to the line up. The show is on at 10 AM Sunday.

July 2008: EcoAlert with Nadine Patrice was launched. It is currently on Saturday morning at 10  AM.

August 2008: School of Social Marketing began on 3 August 2008 as a way to promote an online educational program developed by Dr. Ron Capps, widely known as the NicheProf. The show is at 12:30 PM EST on Sunday. Each week, more people listen live, but the significant thing is that around 100 people listen to the show from the archive.

  • Dashboard - to control the show
  • Chat - to have live interaction during the show
  • RSS-feed: to notify subscribers of new content
  • Cinch: spontaneous mp3 recorder of interviews or reports by phone

I am developing a membership site to help you set up an internet radio program. Each show will become part of the Social Radio Network, a promotional association of independent BTR hosts and podcasters.

Until I get the structure in place, just send me an email and we'll discuss your objectives
